Authentic Louisiana Red Beans and Rice

A delicious and authentic recipe for Louisiana Red Beans and Rice featuring turkey bacon and chicken ham.

  • 1 pound red beans
  • 4 slices turkey bacon
  • 1 cup chicken ham, diced
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 1 green bell pepper, chopped
  • 2 stalks celery, chopped
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 6 cups chicken broth
  • 2 teaspoons Cajun seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon thyme
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 4 cups cooked white rice

Instructions

  1. Soak the red beans overnight in water.
  2. In a large pot, heat olive oil over medium heat and sauté the turkey bacon until crispy.
  3. Add the diced chicken ham, onion, bell pepper, celery, and garlic, and cook until softened.
  4. Drain the soaked beans and add them to the pot along with chicken broth, Cajun seasoning, thyme, and bay leaves.
  5. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for about 1.5 hours or until beans are tender.
  6. Serve over cooked rice.

Notes

  • Adjust Cajun seasoning to taste.
  • For a spicier version, add diced jalapeños.
