  • 2 teaspoons cream of tartar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar, divided
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 tablespoons cinnamon sugar (1 tablespoon cinnamon + 2 tablespoons sugar)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, cream of tartar, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, cream together the butter and 1 cup of granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add the egg and vanilla extract, mixing until combined.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  6. In a small bowl, mix the remaining 1/2 cup of sugar with the cinnamon for the topping.
  7. Roll the dough into balls and then roll in the cinnamon sugar mixture.
  8. Place the dough balls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, spacing them 2 inches apart.
  9. Bake for 10-12 minutes until the edges are set but the centers are still soft.
  10. Allow to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, you can add a pinch of nutmeg to the dough.
  • Ensure your butter is at room temperature for easy mixing.
