Christmas Eve Lasagna (Festive Lasagna Bolognese!)

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 pound ground pork
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 12 lasagna noodles
  • 2 cups ricotta cheese
  • 3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 egg

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, cook the ground beef and pork over medium heat until browned.
  2. Add the onion and garlic, cooking until softened.
  3. Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, basil, and oregano. Simmer for 30 minutes.
  4. Cook the lasagna noodles according to package instructions; drain and set aside.
  5. In a bowl, mix the ricotta cheese, egg, and half of the Parmesan cheese.
  6. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  7. Spread a layer of meat sauce in a baking dish, then a layer of noodles, followed by the ricotta mixture and mozzarella cheese. Repeat layers until all ingredients are used.
  8. Top with remaining mozzarella and Parmesan.
  9. Bake for 45 minutes until bubbly and golden.

Notes

  • Allow lasagna to sit for 10-15 minutes before serving for easier slicing.
  • Substitute ground turkey for a lighter version.
