- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 packet active dry yeast
- 1 ½ cups warm water
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- In a mixing bowl, combine warm water and sugar, then sprinkle yeast on top. Let sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
- Add flour, salt, and olive oil to the yeast mixture. Mix until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour.
- Punch down the dough and divide it into 8 pieces. Shape each piece into a bagel.
- Boil a large pot of water. Add bagels to the boiling water, cooking for 1-2 minutes on each side.
- Remove bagels and place them on a baking sheet. Bake at 425°F (220°C) for 20-25 minutes until golden.
