Paula Deen Not Yo Mama’s Banana Pudding

Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups milk
  • 4 egg yolks
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 package vanilla wafers
  • 4 ripe bananas
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan, whisk together sugar, flour, and salt.
  2. Gradually stir in milk, cooking over medium heat until thickened.
  3. Beat egg yolks, and temper with a bit of the hot mixture before adding back to the pot.
  4. Stir in vanilla extract and let cool.
  5. Layer vanilla wafers, sliced bananas, and pudding in a dish.
  6. Whip heavy cream with powdered sugar until soft peaks form and spread over the top.
  7. Chill before serving.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, substitute half of the milk with cream.
  • You can use chocolate wafers instead of vanilla for a different taste.
